Unhappy Netscape mail problem

I'm having problems saving my emails to disk.

I usually go into Netscape mail, go to the folder I require (business, jokes, family etc.), go to Edit>Select>All then go to File>Save As>File and then it used to open up a new window asking where I wanted to save the file to..............

Now nothing at all happens. I really am a little behind with my backups so don't want to wait too much longer to get them on disk.

Any ideas?

I don't have Netscape, but in IE there's a way of repairing the browser, maybe Netscape has the same, if so, might be worth giving a try!

well ive thought of a work around presuming your problem is with your @netsape.net account.
Select all your mail then right click it and choose copy to local folders, then drafts.
Then go to drafts, select them all and you can save them fine

mail

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look for a repair.

I'm not using @Netscape, just their browser email with my own ISP's account.

What Netscape version are you using?

I did as you suggested (I'd considered it earlier, but was worried I may lose my saved emails by changing), but things actually became worse. Now I can choose Edit>Select All but when I then choose File>Save As it doesn't even get to the next stage which is File. Now File is only showing in grey so I can't even select it and find nothing happens.

Any other suggestions?

Does anyone have any idea how to save my emails to disk? I'm really getting frantic here. It would be very upsetting if I had a crash or something and lost everything since December (when my hard drive died).

Netscape mail uses 'profiles' I believe. The same profile that houses your bookmarks keeps your mail messages and settings.

You can simply backup the 'profile' directory for the profile name that you're using.

I'm assuming that you're using Netscape in windows, and unfortunately I haven't touched Netscape in Windows for many Netscape releases now, so I can't tell you where exactly to find your profile directory. Maybe a windows netscape user can point you to where these profiles are kept. (I would imagine that it might differ on the OS as well, i.e win98 vs win2K)

try looking in your c:\program files\netscape folder for a folder named 'profiles'.

30111987, I tried to do as you suggested but got the same result: the grey shaded options only.

TwistedCranium, I was able to find the files where you pointed me, but when I selected them, a window opened asking me which program I wanted to use to open them. I had no idea what program to select, tried a few, and the only one that partially worked was Word 97 Viewer. It opened up a Word document, but 90% of it was unreadable, just gibberish. Any idea what program to use to get a readable copy?

Well, I was thinking you could just backup that folder. For example to a zip file somewhere else on the disk or even burn it to a CD.

You're right...some of those files inside that profiles folder are not really going to open anywhere 'user freindly, they're more for use by Netscape itself. I was was just worried about addressing the "saving your emails" in terms of backing them up.

Because you can always back up that profile, uninstall Netscape, reinstall it, and then replace your profile. This might end up being something you need to do to fix your saving issue.
