Where did you download the linux 'community' version of the player from?

http://forms.real.com/real/player/unix/unix.html

I tried getting that version to work last week and ended up reverting back to RealPlayer 8.

I searched and searched on the engines and never really found anything definitive on getting the latest version to work right in RedHat 9 so I decided that I'm going to stick with RP 8 until they come up with a better solution.

RP 8 is setup in RPM format at ....

http://rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/freshrpms/redhat/misc/add-ons/real-player/RealPlayer-8.0-1.i386.html

this is the FREE version although there is NO support for it. You may note that some streaming audio may not work since it looks for the new REALONE player that you and I are trying to get working.

but I never really answered your original question. LOL

The file that you downloaded probably looks like this...

rp8_linux20_libc6_i386_cs2_rpm

you need to rename it by typing the following at a terminal prompt:

mv rp8_linux20_libc6_i386_cs2_rpm rp8.linux20.libc6.i386.cs2.rpm

*technically replacing the _ with . *

and then as su root RPM install the package
rpm -iv rp8.linux20.libc6.i386.cs2.rpm
