I just received a laptop that's win 2k professional.

The person got a bootup message that a system file was corrupt ( \winnt\system32\config\system )....

The person had somone run a repair install which worked ok. I could see the file to get the backup.

Today I boot it up and I get this message:

A disk read error occurred. Press ctrl alt del to restart.

Is the drive toast? Shoooooooooooooooot!!!!!

Ok, this really bites!!!!!!!!!!!

When I got the machine it was booting up in the second win 2k install but since then I kept getting the new message.

I just tried a repair on the second install and the setup started repairing but then said that the c drive is corrupted and connot be repaired and setup cannot continue.

Any suggestions at this point? grrrrrrrrrrrrr...........
