Holy disspearing drives batman..

Hey Guys

I really need some help as I'm beggining to feel a bit stupid.

I recently replaced some parts of my computer, the motherboard and hardrive after a lightning strike up the road messed them up.

Everything was going fine until i tried to play a game that used direct3d, when I was informed that direct3d wasnt itialised on my gfx card (geForce4 Mx 420)

I thought this was weird as it was an old game that ran fine on my old drive and board.

So i figred it was just a matter of updateing the Nvidia drivers and away we go.

But after downloading the latest drivers from the Nvidia site and installing them, windows no longer registers my CDrw and DVD drives, plus D3D still dosent work, failed at test 7 8 & 9 on the dxdiag program

Then I thought I'd update the IDE drivers but im stuck with this because when i try and run the latest VIA 4 in 1 setup it just comes up with 'registory error, please reboot' & rebooting dosnt help.

So please anyone who had the same problem and managed to fix it let me know, or just anyone with any better ideas, as im about to go crazy tearing my hair out :P

Thanks in advance guys

-Joy

Ps- new mobo is K7S8X, windows 98se, athalon 2000xp

If you still have a registry backup from before the video driver update, you could try restoring the registry. That might bring the system back to its previous state.
