I have had this problem as long as I have owned my machine.
I noticed it generally happens when we are using IE but not always, we just happen to browse frequently. It can happen if you click something or begin to type. Next thing you know, you see a rapid tabbing/highlighting happening. Going through everything on the screen and then the desktop and task bar. You can't really click on anything. You have to hit enter or click continously on what you want until the tabbing syncs up with where you want to go. I labor through this in the attempt to shut down or restart. Sometimes restarting doesn't do the trick. It might be ok until you go back doing whatever it was you were doing when it happened. After 2 or 3 restarts or even a couple of shut downs - you will be ok for a while. Can anyone tell me what is causing this or tell me the cure to the problem? I would be ever so grateful. Thanks!

Hello. Have u ever tried using another keyboard and mouse. Also make certain that your mouse an keyboard are connected properly, as they can become loose or disconnected as we use them. Just a thought. hth

Yes, I have had a new squeeker (mouse) since I bought this thing in 99.
I asked my IT dude at work, and he has no clue, thinks its a hardware thing. I guess you have to actually 'see' it. I wondered if it was a memory issue or software thing. I don't have any IRQ conflicts.

Since it has to do with the video portion ( what you are seeing on your monitor ,when this happens) You might consider removing the video card and reistalling it to see, if that may correct the problem. These cards can come loose from their slots also. hth
