I lent my real old computer to a friend, its running Win98. He has had it for a couple of months, yesterday he brought it back to me and said it wont start Win98. OK. I started the computer, it goes through the POST, and begins to start Win98, you see the Win98 splash screen, then you see the "It now safe to shutdown your computer". and thats as far as I get.

It looks bad, but thats ok I need the practise with computer troubleshooting so I see it as a challenge. Can anyone help me, but please dont waste your time............Cheers sike:D

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/html/tutorials/tutorial.php/id/24)

if you have not been able to get to the desk top yet you might try using a boot disk to get to DOS,change the A:\ to a C:\ (type C:\ press enter type scanreg /restore you might also try scanreg /fix (put a space between scanreg and the / ) if all that fails you can do a dirty install you could at least be able to save any files.

hi
a correction...
to get from A: to C: you simply type
C:
and press enter...

cd means change directory (aka change folder)
the cd command doesn't work when you want to change to another drive.
