Hi, Im using Mozilla as my default browser however if I click on a link to a website or whatever it always uses IE.
Is there any way to make make it use Mozilla instead?
Running Win98:)

What program does this happen in?

In Mozilla, click on Edit, Preferences, then double click on Navigator. Click on the button to the right that says Set Default Browser. If this button is greyed out, go to Edit, Preferences, Advanced, System.
Be sure HTML, XML, XHTML, and XUL documents in the upper window are checked and all items in the lower window are checked. Also place a check mark in "Alert me if other applications change these settings".

Thanks.
It was already set as default with those settings you mentioned ticked. I added a couple that were'nt (ICO and BMP) whatever they are?
All were ticked in the bottom window and it will now notify me as well.
I figure it may be a non changable part of windows (thanks Bill ) but I have IE blocked in my firewall so it cant access the net anyway.
Im doing this more for security reasons than the inconvenience of having to copy and paste the link into Mozilla.
Thanks for your help:)

dazpook, WHERE are the hyperlinks you are clicking (or in this case copying & pasting to avoid the IE startup)?
Are they in Outlook Express by any chance?
(Kinda defeats the purpose disabling IE but still using OE :( ).
As you suggest, even though you're not using IE, a lot of Windows Internet settings are still controlled by IE.
Even though Mozilla is registered as your default browser are URLs set to open with Mozilla (drag a favourites link from Windows explorer to your desktop - what Icon is used?)

dazpook,
Sorry I wasn't of more help. I have IE and Mozilla installed and use Mozilla as default with no problems. BTW, an ICO file is an Icon and BMP is Bitmap. :)
smurfy,
Out of curiosity I dragged one of my bookmarks in Mozilla to my desktop and the shortcut has the IE icon. When clicking on it, it still opens Mozilla.
Got me curious now.

hmmmm?
i feel a reboot into Windoze coming on... :)
On Mandrake almost exlusively now and the 2 windoze machines on the home LAN only have IE installed.
Have to boot to Win98 on this machine to get a multi-browser Win environment (Opera Default, Moz & IE6).
might have a play in the morning...

Yes,Mostly they are in Outlook Express and some webpages in general.
Dragging a link from Mozilla favs to the desktop brings up an ie icon.
Unfortunately my wife uses Outlook for work stuff and although I have asked her a million times to find an alternative the biggest hurdle is not being 100% sure were all the save files are.
We have reformatted in the past, saved all the files we have been instructed to (on this forum and other articles etc) but we always end up losing something so shes not keen to do it.
Does anyone know of an alternative email prog that will transfer all outlook data safely. I want to get rid of OE altogether, its too full of security flaws.
I believe you cant remove IE so the best I could do is disable it and block all access to the net with my firewall.

I had the same issue when I first started using Mozilla - if I remember correctly, you can save at least some of your data as CSV (comma separated values) and import it. I thought Mozilla Mail (which I use and love) would import from outlook...have you tried this?

Mozilla mail will import from Outlook and Outlook Express. Just open Mozilla mail and click on Tools and Import.

Cool, Mozilla mail imported ALL of the addresses, emails and settings from OE and appears to be working perfectly !!!!
I will leave OE on the pooter for a week or so and if everything checks out I will uninstall it (Yay)
Thanks for your help all :D
