Cleaning C Drive

Hello there
got a friend who has a Compaq and is running windows 95
the pc was given to her it has 1.17MB on the C drive and is using 1.15MB there are alot of things on the pc she doesnt need or want
Im unable to get to RUN>msinfo32 OR RUN>msconfig........Im sorry at this time I do not have the error given when trying....I believe its something along the lines of make sure the correct file path was given...when going to the add/remove programs to get rid of some of the stuff to give her back some space - (I know that Microsoft stuff can pull ALOT off your pc at least on my brand new pc I was unable to work Microsoft work suite with Windows ME, a gateway with 32MB on my c drive and 320 ram i still get memory errors when trying to run most of microsoft software ie..picture it, Task launcher, streets n tips )
So anyway Here is a screenshot of the list of all programs listed in the add/remove programs http://angeldesigns4u.tripod.com/help.html and also a screen shot of the error I get when trying to remove Microsoft office 97 Pro edition - I figured I would start with that.......LOL and have you check out the rest of the list of programs and help me determine what we can get rid of, and what on there she actually needs ~ any help is Greatly appreciated - As Always
Thanx Much

Hi angel - msconfig and msinfo32 are not natively supported in Win 95, thats why you are getting that error message.

It would be more helpful to us (and your friend) if you asked her to go here and download and run a scan with Hijack This. Dont make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

BTW..just out of curiosity, why are you trying to uninstall Office 97 Pro? I would rather have that on my PC than Office 2000, it's less buggy and it just cannot be compared with MS Works.

Hi angel, this machine has obviously come from a business.

You may find you have trouble uninstalling or installing many things depending on whether the system Policy settings allow it.
As for Office97, while I agree with annMarie that I would prefer to leave it on the system before putting Works suite on there, I don't know that's what you intended and I doubt very much your friend has a valid licence to use the software.
Removal can not be done via add/remove because it is looking to an old network location for the setup files. You can however use Eraser97 from the downlaods section here at CTH - http://www.cybertechhelp.com/html/do...load.php/id/14 to remove it.

AnnMarie
thank you for your response Altho at this point she is unable to dwnld anything (hijack this) on to her pc as it tells her her c drive is Full - she cant even save a picture it has 1.17MB on the C drive and is using 1.15MB
The reason for uninstalling Microsoft pro edition 97 was to free her up some space on her C drive - I know microsoft software are HUGE files, so from the add/remove programs I figured id start with that one

smurfy-
thank you also -
But i may have confused you lol - I dont plan on putting MS works on her PC its what I had on mine but took off cuz i wasnt able to use most of the programs as I was getting memory low errors - So assumed the MS 97 pro edition if uninstalled would free her up some space on her C drive.
if you were able to view the link i posted with the screenshots you can see what she has on her PC - We want to get rid of ALL of it that we dont need. Yes the pc came from a buisness - thats why we want to remove all of the old stuff - but not sure how to do it if shes unable to download things she needs to do it ....LOL
any help is appreciated
thanx

Hi angel - Viewpoint Media Player, Real Player, Foresight, Distribute Files can all be uninstalled from Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs). Reboot afterwards. Also, is AOL her ISP? If not, all the AOL software can be uninstalled as well. When you have removed all of the above, you should be able to run Hijack This on her PC. It's just a little file and it can be installed from a floppy.
