What do i need to network 2 computers to a cable modem? As far as i know i need 2 network cards, a cable router and some cables, is that all?

You don't need a Router, but I would recommend it.

Without a Router you can use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) software.
Note: CrossOver Cat5 cable required.
Modem is connected to PC1.
PC2 is connected to PC1.
ICS is enabled.

Downside is that PC1 has to be on for PC2 to access the net.

With a router both PC's and the modem connect directly to the router and work independently of each other.
Note: Straight-Through/Patch cable is required.

So lets say i buy two network cards, a router, and the cable that is all i need to use the modem on my other comp?

Yep, straight through cable from modem to router. Straight through cables from router to each computer. Set up networking on each PC and you're online with both!
