working on same file in network
if there are 2 computers on a network can they both work on a mircosoft access database at the same time? If we get an error message that says we can't do this what might be wrong?

I'm not familiar with the practice of simultaneous opens of a M$ Access DB, but simultaneous opens of any type of file without some type of 'source control' in place is not a good thing to do.
I know that M$ Word alerts you when you open a *.doc file that someone else already has open, and it prompts you to either open it 'read only' or risk the outcome if you choose the edit mode. So there is likely to be something in Access that does the same thing. Now a database, by its nature, should be accessible to many people at the same time, there should be some controls put in place to 'lock' records while they are being updated. They're usually not much help, but do the M$ Access help files provide any tips on simultaneous opens? |

Usually, it requires the use of groupware version of MS Access...meaning that the normal version of Access only allows one to edit and the other to view in 'ready only' mode |
