Posted this previously in the OS section for WIN2kpro, but haven't gotten any responses, noticed there was a networking forum so thought I would try it here as well.

Well computer was starting up andg etting stop error, so I did a repair of the installation, I also did a scandisk which stopped before it got to the end, and the autoscandisk after bad shut down wouldn't budge, so I ran an extended test on my hard drive, it found and repaired some errors, and then scan disk ran fine.

Problem I'm having is I can no longer access my siblings computers on the network. Says Home is not avilable, list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available. Well I went to network neighborhood, right clicked, properties...go oto Local area network and hit properties, I can't remove the checkmark next to any of the options, I could swear there was a tcp/ip option there as well for the network to use, could be wrong, but all there is currently is the client for microsoft networks, file print sharing, and netbeui can't view properties on any of them, and can't install any new ones cause it'll say could not add requested component, reason being the file was not found.

So is it possible to add the files back?

Any help would be great.

Actually due to this problem, I don't think my brother or sister can access the internet any longer from their computers...*sighs* it's one problem after another. Last night I had tried the net from her computer once and it worked but she said it no longer works, and I'm pretty sure the network stuff is the problem on my computer since it says the things about no files and you can't change options, and I can't the workgroup in network neighborhood.

Help! =]

First, you need to logon as an administrator to be able to change the network properties.

Second, how do the other computers connect to the internet? Cable, DSL, dial-up?

Are you using the built-in ICS, or another proxy server? A router?

Give a little run down on your setup, the more detailed the info the clues we have to help solve the issues......

I already do log on as the admin and can't change any of the settings and it still says files can't be found etc.

We have dial up, and they connect to my hub, we use Sygate Internet Connection Sharing, always was easiest to setup and works good.

And since my hard drive had the error that the program on diskette (western digital data life guard I think it was) it fixed it, and haven't been able to access the network or change any options or view properties.

Wondering if I'm just going to have to reinstall windows.

Thinking it might just be quicker to stick HDD in brother's computer and format reload.

Well it's all working now, I just formatted and reloaded windows, popped hard drive into brother's computer and copied things to his, wasn't much to copy, most of my good stuff was on my IBM drive that quit a week or so ago, it's on it's way back to IBM as well.
