Unhappy windows protection error.you need to restart your computer.

Hello,

Well after finally succesfully loading win 95b onto my old(near worthless)pc.

I have a new problem.

I get an error at the top of the scrren when attempting to start windows normally. It didn't do this from the start,I was able to get to the regular desktop before.

"windows protection fault.you need to restart your computer."

OK so when I restart the pc it goes into safe mode, when I restsrt it agin i get the same error at the top of the black scrren.

How exactly am I supposed to get out of this loop???

from your recent posts it would seem that you have a hardware problem rather than a software problem.

Unhappy

Hello,

Yes it seems that must be it,I don't know what's faulty hardware, almost everything been replaced except the cd rom drive and the power supply.

I spent alot of cash on this pc in its day,and now its just a pile of junk.

I suppose I should just accept it's over and move on. :o

Hi. Ignore Tweaker, he got lost and stumbled into Win95 by mistake - there is no Scanreg to use and it wouldn't be much use anyway since you have never got a successful Windows Bootup after installation.

Does the board have USB on-board? AGP Slot? This is a '98 motherboard and you're loading an O/S that was last updated 2 1/2 years earlier - some of the hardware on that machine was probably not known to Win95b.
Do you have a motherboard drivers disk that you can load from Win95 safe mode?

Get into the BIOS setup on that machine and see if there is a "load setup defaults" or similar and do it. You may lose the CD-Rom in Windows but that will only be temporary. Bottom line is we have to eliminate the hardware that's giving us grief.

Yes as smurfy stated ignore me, I'm lost! Maybe I misunderstood you I believe you stated that you successfully installed Windows 95 and got to the desktop before, so I don't think I was too lost there.

I apologize MaCready for giving you the wrong suggestion, I assumed Win 95 had scan/reg like 98 my bad. :o

It's been so long since I used win 95, (sign of age).

Anyway, Windows 95 ships with a utility on the CD-rom called "CFGBACK". It is the tool provided for backing up the registry by Microsoft. (Whether thats good or bad you decide) If you explore your Win95 CD you can find it in the -->Other\misc\cfgbak

It provides a very easy way to back up the Win95 registry which might be helpful in the future.

But I still would check that link just to cover all bases.
