New Forum Version - How to Use

Hi,

I have upgraded the forums to the latest version of UBB. As you can see just cosmetically there have been a lot of changes

In no particular order -

Login/Logout

You now have to login to post new topics/replies. This means your browser must be set to accepting cookies. The issue of having to have cookies accepted is being worked on by the manufacturers of UBB but for the time being this is the way it is.

By having this feature not only is the UBB more secure but it also allows the more features to work more effectively.

Private Messaging

By clicking on a members PM icon in one of their posts you can now send private messages to each other if needed.

To check your Private Messages simply click the link called My Profile which you'll see at the top right of most (if not all) forum pages.

Instant Graemlins / Instant UBB Code

When making a post or a reply you will now see an easy to use interface which will allow you to add urls, font styles, smilies, even if you aren't familiar with UBB code.

Signatures

No longer will you have to keep ticking the signature box when posting as it is always pre-checked.

My Picture

In your profiles you can add a link to a photo of yourself which you may have uploaded on your own server/hosting. Thus, when other members click on your profile they can see what you look like

Last Post By

Information regarding who last posted and the subject title is now displayed on the main forum page, and on the forum summary pages making it a lot easier for you to see who may have replied to your topic or one you have been reading.

Other than that (unless I have forgotten something) all the other features are "under the hood". Meaning that the actual internals of the new version of Ultimate Bulletin Board have been practically re-written. It has been written a LOT better allowing the owners to customise them a lot better, and to make the code more optimised, secure, and faster loading.

If for you the forums are loading slow

The new UBB uses a caching system to store its pages. Instead of creating 2 files each time a thread was created, or every time someone brought up the forum summary page the page was recreated - with the new caching feature the pages are only recreated when a page has been added to, and it only creates one file. Thus speeding things up a lot. Not both server side, but for us viewing the forums.

Whilst the cache is being built - a day or 2 max the forums may appear slow. But this is temporary and to be expected. The cache is being built each time someone visits a page it hasn't as of yet cached because I have only just upgraded the forums. But like I said this is very temporary

Graphics & Colours

The graphics and colours of the forums at present I haven't really sorted out so if they aren't too your tastes atm please don't worry as I will be getting on to those tomorrow

If you have any questions about the forum upgrade, or in the unlikely event you spota bug, please feel free to email me at admin@cybertechhelp.com

Finally, I hope you like the new look,

MishY

Spellchecker

Forgot about this

The spellchecker hasn't as of yet been added to this version, but you can expect it to be back here within a week or 2 hopefully

Sorry for any inconvenience,

MishY

LOL I knew someone would pick up on that Bill

When you buy a UBB and install it it comes with a member "ready-made" so you can immeadiately login and play with the admin features.

Because the username and pw of that user are the same for all UBB's when you buy them everyone deletes that user so no one can hack their forums

I'm glad you like the new look. I think its a great improvement myself

Dave gimme that beer mate - it would sooth this tonsilitus just perfectly right now mate lol

Yeah Mishy, I was over at the Infopop message board a could weeks back and read a thread about this poor lady who owned a board and it was stolen right out from under her by some internet con arrest. The guy took her PW and whatever else it take to grab it all. She went through months of legal crap to get it all back. I wish I still had the link to that thread but no. I'm sure it is still over there although. There were some guys over there that really helped her alot. One guy I believe has two or three boards "one board 4000 plus members" and sites.
Maybe you know of that thread.

On another topic, over at a Mac board there has been some folks asking for help on windows etc.
I'm not to sure they "administrators" allow/approve of referrals persa, sooooo I snuck in this.
================================================== =============
I'm not sure if one should eerrrr advertise (<- for lack of better word) to another board so I won't .
================================================== =============
Note the ending "period"... *grin*
As it turned out many other posters gave links out. Too three or four windows boards. Yours, Tigs, Windows-help.net and another. Remember what I said to ya about "in ten years you could be a house hold name" way back when...
Just remember us little people Mishy.. *smile* LOL

See ME

LOL Bill,

Yea I remember reading that too. Very interesting, but Infopop provide amazing support if needed for their products, and it's good to see they were happy to help her
