2pc network help

Is there any way of contacting another pc on my network in such a way that the recipient sees a pop up or hears a sound . If so what software do u recommend.

Both PCs WinXP Pro
Sharing an internet through pc1

In the MS-DOS Prompt type net send or just net to learn more.
