I just got a D-Link 2.4 Ghz G wireless network and it works great, I can access shared folder and printers just fine. I want to use it to share my dial up conection. Before I got the wireless I had my desktop and my laptop directly conected with a ethernet cable, I set up a network and shared my dial up conection. It worked great. But now that I got the wireless when I try to edit my network settings and share my dial up conection it comes up with an error message thats says something about "confilict with ip address so device was disabled". Is it not possible to share a modem dial up conection on a wireless network?

Well sence nobody has any answers I'll give you little more info on my situation.
After fiddling with IP address (which I know nothing about) I got my wireless conected laptop to share its dial-up conection to the desktop and to another wireless laptop. But I dont want my laptop to have to have to be the one that has to share the internet. I have this D-Link network utillity on the desktop and it alows u to change all kinds of address things, Virtual Server, and DMZ. And i dont know anything about any of thoughs settings. Any help here would be apreciated! |

sharing wireless dial-up
I have about the same problem. I have 3 computers sharing the internet.
They were wired, now it's wireless. If the computers are close enough to to pick up the signal form the cards, it will work just like a wired network. If you need to use a router because they are to far apart from each other, then thats a problem. I have a dsl/cable router, but I don't have dsl or cable, just dial-up. The router has built in internet connection sharing, and I have found no way to disable it. I can get it to work if I connect to the internet with my internet sharing computer, connect to the internet (on the shared connection) with my closest computer using the wireless cards signal. I then turn on the router, switch from the wireless cards signal to the routers signal. Turn on my third computer, which is to far away to use the cards signal, use the router signal, and it will also use the shared connection to the internet. I'm using win98 and Internet Sharing Connection Manager that came with 98. The cards are Xterasys, the router is Linksys. I am sure it's an IP address conflict, but I haven't figure out how to fix it yet. |

Check your IP
Quote:
First when you share a dial up connection in Widnows XP your IP Address will change to 192.168.0.1 so first check all your IP Address; PC1 - 192.168.0.1 PC2 - 192.168.0.2 PC3 - 192.168.0.1 DLink - 192.168.0.1 (that where the conflict is) Change your Router IP Address. |

Wireless Router IP
I could never get the linksys router to work with the xterasys cards, so I got a xterasys router.
I simply disabled the DHCP server on the router and everything works great. The IP Address on the router is 192.168.1.254. The IP Address's on the Internet sharing network are 192.168.0.(1 & 2 & 3 Etc). These are assigned by the Internet Connection Manager from Win98.
