[note: I have also posted this dilemma in the windows 2000 forum]
I am trying to make a peer-to-peer network between a computer running windows XP (called Snoopy) and one running windows 2000 (called Lucy). *The computers are members of the same workgroup. Snoopy (XP) can "see" that Lucy (2000) is in the workgroup, but if you click on Lucy, the following message occurs: \\Lucy is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator...etc. The network path was not found. In addition, Lucy cannot see that Snoopy exists in the workgroup at all. *I have file sharing turned on for both computers. *I am connecting through a router. Both Snoopy and Lucy can access the internet through the router, so I know that the networking hardware is working fine. *I have a strong feeling that the problem resides with Lucy (the windows 2000 machine). Any and all ideas are much appreciated, One very confused and exhausted Amanda P.S. If the computers cannot be networked, what is the best way to copy approximately 4 GB from Lucy to Snoopy? (Lucy cannot burn CDs) This is why I am attempting to network in the first place. Thanks again! |

Hi purplelift - your problem will probably get a better response in our Networking Forum. I'm transferring this thread and closing the other to avoid confusion. Good luck.

Did you add Snoopy to Lucy's Users and Passwords in Control Panel?
Same name exactly as on Snoopy machine and same password exactly. Plus, actually share something on Lucy. Right-mouse click on C: (My Computer) and share it. |

Make sure you have NetBIOS installed on both machines. I had the same issue but when I installed NetBIOS on the 2000 the problem went away.
