Hey all, well I am having problems with both my Cd-RW and my CD-Rom drives. They arent reading any of the cds that I put in, and I have checked virtual memory, and made sure there is enough, etc. The system is not detecting anything wrong with them either. This all happend after a sibling of mine installed Roller Coaster Tycoon. (Grrrr)
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Well, first step, del your drive, reboot and let windows detect it.
If it does not work, update your drive, the drive that you have may not be compactible with that software(if i'm not wrong, a game).

Hi, welcome to CTH. Sorry for the delay in responding.
How long ago did this start? You could give this a try if Davids suggestion doesn't work.
Reboot your computer and hit the F8 key(CTRL key if F8 doesn't work) at the first sign of bootup. (First screen that appears)...
It should bring up a menu. Normal, Safe mode, etc. Choose Command prompt only.
Should look like this C:\> At this Prompt type scanreg /restore Leave a space between the G and /
When the list appears, choose a date prior to this problem. This will work if the problem has been happening within the last Five days....
After the restore is done then reboot the PC and see if the Drive will work....
If that doesn't help, then go to Device Manager. Right click on My Computer/device manager tab. Take a look around and see if there are any Yellow ! or ? in there... Post back results.........

Hi there,
As Dodge says, have a look in device manager for any ! icons BEFORE you delete the drive, post back if anything's in there.
Right Click "My Computer" and select Properties.
Select "Device Manager" tab.
Anything with yellow or red icons?
Click the + next to CD-Rom devices
Highlight your CD-RW drive.
Click "remove" button.
Restart.
Windows will see a "new" device and reload drivers.
:Caution: This may not resolve the problem and will possibly put your drive into MS-DOS compatibility mode (look under "Performance" tab in device manager.
The fix for this involves editing your registry so we'll hold off until we know if we need it.

Glad it worked. But if you wouldn't mind, tell us what worked. There were a few different things suggested. Thanks......
