Hi, I want to connect 2 PC's using a Router(Netgear rt314), so I can share files & Highspeed Internet.

Everytime i try connecting the Internet cable to the Router I can't connect to the internet. it says 'cable not connected' so I've directly connected the cable to the host PC.

also I can't get the 2 PC's to communicate.

I've assigned IP addresses for both (host: 192.168.0.1 & client:192.168.0.2) BUT when I ping from the host it says "Request timed out".
When I ping the host from the client it works fine and I get a reply.

can some1 pls help me out. Thank you.

ps. I'm using Win XP on both PC's

Don't do that, leave it to automatically detect. The router assigns IP
addresses.

in the internet setup options leave the tcp/ip setting to automatically obtain an ip address the router will do the rest
