how to reboot win95

i have a computer that crashed once before and the guy who fixed in installed win 95 even though it's a pre-pentium 1 computer.
it's very slow.
it crashed again yesterday. when i start up the computer, it gives you a blank screen with a cursor. if you press the keyboard, nothing comes up at the cursor.
do i need to run a win95 boot disk??

If it's a pre pentium 1, then it's probably a 486 (or earlier) and this can run W95 and possibly even W98 depending on the Memory configuration. More memory would certainly speed things up for you, but as to whether it's practicle is another matter. The earlier 486 MBs used 30 pin memory and normally had 8 memory slots. The memory sticks came in either 1 meg or 4 meg configurations and had to be installed in groups of 4, so that would give you a max of 32 megs for 8 slots using 4meg sticks. This is enough for W95, in fact W95 will run on considerably less, but for 98 that's borderline. The later MBs used 72 pin memory that normally had to be installed in pairs depending on how "wide" a word you needed. With this type of memory you can get reasonable performance with 64 megs that you could make up with a couple of pairs of sticks (normally 4 slots on this type of MB).

If your OS is "shot", you'll need more than just the boot disk to replace this. You'll start with the boot disk, but then you'll need the installation media - either the Floppy Disk set (about 18 disks) or the CD. There's a tutorial on this site that gives you step-by-step details of how to re-install an OS.
