help!!!

I bought a refurbished omnibook. When i try to use windows I keep getting error messages.ie "performed illegal action" and "explorer file not found". This totally locks up the system. I have went into safemode to try and fix the problem but same message appear. I donot have a recovery cd for this unit. The dvd/cd programs run fine so I think that this may be a windows issue. Should I reformat and start over? If I do that will I lose my dvd/cd programs? Thanks for your help!

if you format and start over you will loose everthing on the hard drive
thats the best thing to do unless you have vital info on the hard drive that you need to get first
