Default monitor reinstalls on startup?

I just did a clean install of 98 and after loading the nvidia drivers my PC frequently reinstalls the default monitor settings on startup so that I have two monitors in the system properties device manager panel.

When it does this it will also default back to 800x640 but will keep my specified refresh rate?

I think it must be the monitor itself as this has happened using 2 different motherboards 2 different hard drives and 3 versions of nvidia drivers?
Monitor is an LG Flatron 775FT 17'
Any Ideas?

P3800, DFI CA64-TC Board, 20g Quantum Drive, 384 SDram, GEforce MX440, Soundblaster Live 5.1 etc

You could boot into safe mode>open Device Manager and delete any extra/unwanted monitor references. Also does your monitor manufacturer have newer drivers available at their website?

I'm just guessing but that's what I'd do first.
