Can't Record With MIC
I have WINME---
REAL ONE---Player V2 Gold VER. 7.0.02151 Quick Time player--VER 630.17 I can receive all sounds with no problem except when I try to record with my MIC it does not record. So I do not hear my recorded sounds. What settings do I need for both programs to record and how do I set them? Thanks

Hello Burt.
Double click on the little speaker on your taskbar, check if your microphone is on mute if it is uncheck it. If you don't find the volume control for microphone, go to options then properties on the bottom you will see some other items checked, go and check microphone, when you do that you will see microphone volume control and mute button will show up.

Thanks Tweaker for your reply In Properties--- When I open it up the PLAYBACK is always enabled. I click on to recording. When I reopen Properties--PLAYBACK is again dotted. It won't stay fixed in recording. In show volume controls, all are checked.--Also it shows--MIXER CONTROL ESS ALLEGRO. In VOLUME CONTROL, all are unchecked. Still can not record. Thanks

Ok Mic was not muted, hmmm, is the Mic plugged into the correct hole on the Tower ? - (not trying to insult your intellegence) there are often two sets of 'sound' holes - one set is for the OnBoard Sound - the other for the Sound Card.

Ok Burt try this, same path to where you saw if Microphone was checked. In the upper half of the window, put the bullet in Recording and see what the volumes are on the Recording window.

Under those properties, Microphone balance should be selected. If that does nothing, your sound card drivers may put a device in the control panel which can control the mic in port.
Have you tried the win me drivers found here for that card? http://www.esstech.com/techsupp/drivers.shtm#pci

Hey Burt
After further research with this issue, Compaq has this to offer for troubleshooting recording problems. Which we pretty much covered most of these suggestions. If your microphone has never worked, or if it has stopped working, first check the physical connection of the microphone. Verify that it is firmly plugged into the microphone port instead of the headphone or speaker port. If you are not sure which port is correct, you can check the sound card to see if it is marked (sometimes with a picture of a microphone), you can use a process of elimination; check the documentation that came with your hardware. Follow these steps to record sound in the Sound recorder tool: If you cannot record a .WAV file after you follow the steps in the previous section, there may be a problem with your microphone property settings. Check these settings by following these steps: 1. Double-click the Speaker icon on the taskbar, and then verify that the Microphone slider is at the top and that the Mute check box is not selected. If Mute is selected, click to clear the check box, click OK, and then try to record a .WAV file again. 2. If your properties support an Advanced function (some sound cards do and some do not), select this button and check the properties to ensure that any reference to Microphone is enabled. 3. Click OK, and then try to record a .WAV file again. If the microphone is not on your taskbar follow these: 1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, and then double-click Multimedia. 2. Click to select the Show volume control on the taskbar check box, and then click OK. 3. Click Record, and then speak into the microphone. If you still cannot record a .WAV file, there is probably a hardware-related cause, and you should try the preceding steps with another microphone or contact your hardware manufacturer. If you can record a .wav in Sound Recorder, but you are still having problems in a specific program, there may be settings that must be enabled in the program. Check the documentation that came with the program for specific details. Common Problems with Microphones: 1. If your volume is turned off or is set very low, you may not be able to be heard when you use your microphone. Verify that you can hear .wav files by using the Sound Recorder tool. a. On the File menu, click Open. b. Locate and click a .WAV file, and then click Open. c. Click Play. 2. If you are using amplified speakers, verify that they are properly connected to the sound card, and that they are turned on and the volume control is turned up. This suggestion might help. Also, try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the sound card.

Good Morning Tweaker- I want to thank you for your patience and your suggestions. I D\L the DRIVERS and now I am at the point where I can hear scraping and tapping sounds from my speakers when I turn the MIC on. I try to record and when the Real One Player window opens up it shows the moving arrow but still no recorded sound. I also followed all your suggestions. Have a nice day--I will keep trying. Thanks

Sorry Burt, I wish I could think of something else. I'm at a loss here, not sure what else to try. If I come up with anything else I will let you know.
