When i turn on my secondary computer it sounds like it's booting and the monitor light shows green then goes to amber. It just doesn't sound like the normal boot up. The light on the front of the computer is on and i can hear the fans running. It was formatted awhile ago and worked fine, but hasn't been used for awhile.
We had a lightning storm, but the system is on a surge protector and doesn't seem to show any damage. I'm just really confused with the behaviour and I don't know if it is a monitor problem or the computer itself. Any suggestions? |

You said this is your second computer. Is both of them PC's and not laptops? If both PC's then take the monitor from one and hook it to the other and see if it works. That will rule out a monitor problem.
If the monitor works then you need to shut the computer off and unplug it. Open the case up and take a look around and find the battery. It will look like a watch battery only much bigger. Next to the battery there should be 3 short pins sticking up with a Plastic piece over two of them with only one left showing. Take the plastic piece off, and place it over the one that is bare and the one in the middle. (Or you can take your battery out of the sytem for a couple of minutes) Either way will work fine. This will reset the Bios to factory settings. Then plug your computer back in and see if it will work correctly. Please post back with the results either way. |

I posted a while back about a monitor that wasn't working. Sometimes i can be sooooooooo blonde!! It wasn't the monitor, it was the whole computer that wasn't working. After some heavy thinking i remembered i had pulled the memory out of the computer to see if it was the same as the other computer. when i put the memory back in, it didn't seat properly, so the computer wasn't even booting. After checking it and seeing the problem, i removed that memory stick and it booted perfectly.
NOW my problem is... and it's really not a problem because the computer runs fine with 164MB ram, but i can't get the second memory stick to go in any of the two remaining memory slots!! O'well.. it's not used to much, so someday when i feel extra strong i'll attempt to put it in!! No replies necessary as i'm not looking for advice. I just thought i'd let those know that the problems is solved if anyone remembers replying to my yell for help!!
