Now i can't find the person i bought it from...My problem is it freezes before scandisk is complete. If i restart it freezes even quicker. Is there any hope for my problem? Or have i been shafted? Okay I might be wrong, but you are not allowed to purchase windows operating systems second hand unless you purchase a new license from microsoft. Technically the seller and you the buyer did a no-no. Since you do not have the original installation disk I would say, start form scratch. To purchase a legal disk do an internet search. Use e-bay as a last resort. there are many legitimate software dealers on the web who will ship you any operating system you want put price around first.

On the scandisk issue you may have a corrupted harddrive. I'd suggest you wipe the hard drive clean with a boot disk with the switch:
A:\> format /u
This will zero out the drive completely as if it came from the factory. Then partition with fdisk, and reformat. I don't know if you can run scandisk in dos but you could try chkdsk I think(?). Others here might lend more help than I can.
