Hi,
I am using a Hp Pavilion with windows 98 as my operating system. Just recently i got lots of error messages and could not get rid of them so i decided to restore my computer to its original factory settings. I did what i was told to insert the cd shut down the computer and wait 30 seconds. The recovery program came up and everything seemed to work fine but when i click yes to start to recovery the computer just freezes and it stays on the same screen? any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Why try cleaning the cd-rom...are they're still any big scratches on it?

First I would take a good look at the CD. Chances are it is may be dirty or have a film built up on it. If it does, take a clean lint free cloth and wipe it off good. Then try the CD out again.

Can you tell us some of the errors you have been receiving? It is possible you have a Hardware problem that was causing the errors and could be causing this freeze up also.

I dont think its the cd-rom because all of them dont work and on my laptop they do. Its not a hardware problem but there is an error in windows. Perhaps this may help...I installed xp on my computer from windows 98 and then my computer was too slow so i uninstalled windows xp and went back to windows 98. The next thing i did was put in a cd to upgrade my aol and as soon as i placed the cd into the drive and closed it a blue error message popped up and each time my computer would freeze? now i am stuck
