Modem

I'm trying to setup an internal modem and
I can't get the 98 wizard to recognize it.
Is there any way to identify the name and
model of the modem.

When add new hardware wizard pops up insert the cd or floppy that came with the modem. Choose to specify a location of the driver and browse the cd or floppy to find the driver. Look for a folder that is called driver or Win9x. Those are popular locations for drivers.

If it is a 3-Com USR modem, you should have a program on the CD which will identify the exact type of modem you have. In some cases it can even identify the serial number. They also can do it at their web site, however here catch 22 comes in. Of course you will ask, "How the hell can I get to their website if I cant get the modem working". This is why I recommend finding the appropriate program on the disc.

There is another way that I try also. Right click my computer, click on Properties, then Device manager tab.

Click on the Refresh button. It might pick up on the Modem then. Worth a try, and only takes a second.....

You could try using Belarc Advisor. See if it will detect the name and model of your Modem. You can get it at Belarc Advisor

EDIT

Sorry, but the modem would have to be installed for this program to help you. But I will leave the link to the site, it is good to know what you have inside the PC...

I'm still not sure of the make and model
of the modem but thats OK. I was able to
locate the disc that came with it called
Bitware. Now it works fine.
Thanks for the info.
