so slow opening pages

Hi Again everyone,
This problem is with my mothers computer, she is running windows 98 and it's unfortunatly a compaq presario. It has never been the fastest computer i have ever seen, but over the course of time has gotten to be very very slow.
iI just had more memory installed and now it seems even slower than before, and that makes no sense,
i have run defrag, scandisk, different optimizing programs, limited what is open in the background and still it just seems slower than mollases in the winter at opening a page on the internet.
although once it has waited long enough for the progress bar to get to the end it "pops" the page right open......very weird!!
it's very frustrating and any and all help is welcome

Hi digitpower - it might help if we can see whats running on your mother's computer when she is connected to the Internet. Go here and download and run a scan with Hijack This. Dont make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.
