Send to Desktop (create shortcut) ?

Can anyone tell me how I can have my Win95 explorer send to menu include the command:
Send to Desktop (create shortcut) like it does in Win98 explorer?

Much thanks!

To add a destination to this list, place a shortcut for the destination in the "Send To" folder inside your system's Windows folder. To delete or rename existing "Send To" items, delete or rename their icons in this folder.

Hi Murph and thanks for the reply. I did try what you suggest but the file is sent to desktop as an exact copy. In Win98 the file is sent as a true shortcut. Perhaps this is inherent in the Win98 explorer structure and is not capable in win95?

Haven't run "95" in several years, but maybe Windows 95 Power Toys will help get it Here

I think this will only be available in Win95 if you have installed the Desktop Update feature in Internet Explorer 4.

Hi Smurfy!

I am working within limited parameters. I have a win98SE engine with a WIn95 explorer. I've stripped out every non audio/video app/prog/reg value I can find. I definitly can't install IE.

So what I've done is start to look at this in windows 98 for clues.

1) in Send To folder right clicking the Icon: Desktop (create shortcut)
I see that it has 0 bytes!

2) It is a deslink file (.DesLink) which is not registered in w95(?) but is registered in win98

3)It has a string value: CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}

4) doing a search I came up with a number of other values:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}]
"NeverShowExt"=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\InProcServer32]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM\\SENDMAIL.DLL"
"ThreadingModel"="Apartment"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\explorer.exe,-103"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\shellex]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\shellex\DropHandler]
@="{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}"

I suspect that I would need to modify shell32.dll, I could probably change the icon # in explorer to default 0.

I'm going to do a full reg search, try a reg hack to see if it'll take and I'll report my findings. I'm probably the only guy in the world who wants this.
