Computer freezes up can't get to programs

Computer 700 mhz AMD Os WinMe; after a while sporadically freezes up,and i'll have to turn it off with the switch in the back of the machine; to get going again.
Have anyone ever had this problem or does anyone know what some problems could be?
Thanx any Replies will be greatly appreciated

could be many things but the obvious things to do first is take all the things you dont need running all the time off your start up (msconfig)

clean your cookies / history / temporary internet files/ set your history to 2 days
download and run spybot
run a full virus scan

empty your recycle bin and de-frag your machine

if none of that helps i would be looking for a heat or power supply problem

Mine kept freezing and crashing with increasing regularity. It got to the point where it crashed as it started sometimes. So I did a reformat and all is well.

Hi Ddice - I merged your last post with your original thread (just in case someone else is looking for a fix for the same problem). Thanks for posting back and letting us know how you resolved the problem.
