right well you need to get a boot floppy and your windows cds
it sounds like you have an upgrade disk so you will need the disk with the original os cos the upgrade disk will proberly ask for it when you install me.

Hi debefwlr,
Do you have the Recovery or Restore CD that Compaq (hopefully) supplied with the computer? If you don't have the install CDs, then you'll probably have to purchase an install CD for whichever version of Windows that you want to install, unless Compaq will supply you with a copy of the Restore or Recovery CD that should have shipped with your computer.

I purchased the computer from an individual and did no get a boot cd. I do have a windows me upgrade CD, that was used to reboot it once before! and a start up disk was made then too!
What else can I do!:(

well your stuck, you see the upgrade disk won't work without an older windows disk to check.
You need to by a new full windows disk or you could try phoning up compaq and try and explain the problem to them and get a recovery cd set.

now the 98se cd might work
ive never done this before but i think the theory is that you use the upgrade cd to install me and somewhere along the process it'll ask you for your 98se cd to check that you are upgrading. Iknow you can instlall me for scrach without hagving to install 98 first.
