Hello Forum,
I would like to stop Windows 98se from wasting my time splashing the "Windows Is Shutting Down" Screen. Does anyone know how to remove this command from windows?
Thanks

Hi guys.
Theo, Discover was asking about the shutdown splash screen. Easiest way I know to do this is to rename logow.sys in the Windows directory - e.g. to logow.old. I don't know if it's possible to disable the shutdown screen in msdos.sys.

Hiya HKEd. Long time no read.
I've never fooled around with the splash screen but I remember the link. I wonder if Discover is hanging at shutdown and that is why he's trying to get rid of it? HUM??

Hey guys,
Thanks for the response.
I had discovered the MSDOS.SYS modification to logo=0 and it did remove the startup screen.
I just wanted to do the same with the shut down screen. I'm not having any problems shutting down. Other than it seems I reboot alot while fooling around with the computer. So I was just trying to shorten restart time to a minimum.
I'm afraid if I simply rename the logow.sys file then windows will still look but then time out. So I wouldn't save any shut down time.
I'll try renaming the logow.sys and provide an empty logw.sys file and see what happens.
I'll let you know.
I have a 2'nd ?
Last fall I had run across a utility that would run on startup and give basically the bootlog but with times of each operation during startup. This allowed one to correct any problems that caused windows to balk and eat up time. For example, I found that windows was spending about 90 seconds looking for the CD. I fixed with an updated driver from the CD manufacturer.
Anyway, I cannot relocate this utility and was wondering if you guys knew about it???
Thanks again,
Ned

Hey Theo...how goes it? I've been on vacation for the past three weeks (in Connemara - the west of Ireland). No net access, so brain is now back in reasonable working order (not for long, I suspect).
If Discover is having shutdown problems, getting rid of the splash screen probably won't help. There'll just be a blinking cursor in it's place.

Hi Discover...we were posting at the same time, it seems.
Was it BootLog Analyzer (http://www.vision4.dial.pipex.com/)?

I tried renaming logow.sys to logow.bak and created an empty file named logow.sys.
Worked fine the first time I clicked restart. Immediate blank screen and then the restart happened a few seconds later. However, after the restart I tried it twice again and windows locked up on a blank screen....
So I put the files back as original.
Any ideas?

Discover...I don't see the need for an empty logow.sys file. My system shuts down without the splash screen time after time with just logow.sys renamed. Try deleting the empty file and see if it works.
