All of a sudden my "thumbnail" previews in my pictures folder are showing the magnifying glass icon - No longer the pic preview....and when opening folder after reboot Got error Msg:

Line 103
Char 13

code 0
URL File://c:\windows\web\imgview.htt

....I havent done anything different to my pc - this just happened today - I am not using Tweak UI (whatever that is) lol......and I do have the desktop.ini file "hidden" in My Pictures Folder.
Can someone please help me?? Will GoBack fix this problem??
Any info is, as always, much appreciated

Hi angel - try this, doubleclick on My Computer and go to View > Folder Options. Click on the General Tab and check "Classic Style" (I'm using Win98 to guide you so tell me if WinME is different) and then Apply > OK.

Next go to Start > Run and type:

regsvr32 webvw.dll

You should get a message saying that the command was successful. Reboot and re-enable "Web Style" if you wish.

Hard to know angel :( I havent used Go Back but give it a try. I cant see that it would do any harm. The only drawback that I can see is if you have installed new programs or critical updates after the date you "Go Back" to, they may have to be reinstalled.

You are welcome angel. If I think of anything else, I'll post back. BTW..did you get a message that the registration of webvw.dll succeeded?

I sometimes get that exact same error message when opening up My Pictures. Have seen it off and on for the plus 2 years since I've had this machine, (an HP, if that matters).

There was never anything wrong with the folder, just that irritating message. I have lost thumbnails, and used the fix AnnMarie posted, but it didn't seem to be related to this particular message. Not sure, though.

Ok nothing fixed as of yet

ive tried AnnMaries fix again, and still no luck

but thought that i would mention that My docs folder as well as My pics folder carry a file called "Desktop" looks like a notepad but with the yellow gear on it, and its kinda greyed out......Now my pics folder as well as all my sub-folders in the pics folder carry a file called "Thumbs.db"
Does anyone know what they are and why they are there??

Thanx Much

Can't you save all your all your graphics and web design, onto a CD, then run Go Back? :)

Well ya I could do that

But hubbys a Musician and hes already put some new stuff on the pc as well these last 2 days, and I just find it so hectic to have to burn all that onto CD before running Go Back.. .....But the thought has crossed my mind....lol

Thanx

Sounds like somehow "show hidden files and folders" is activated. Do you see those icons in just any folder you look in?

"Thumbs.db" you'll see in any folder you customize to look like My Pictures, with "show hidden files" enabled. Look under Tools>Folder Options>View. (And almost every folder you can tweak, if you like. I customize the wallpaper folder that way). I've seen those once hidden items sometimes appear after saving things to a CD-R and then putting them back, say after a reinstall, don't know why. Reckon that's what happened with you?

By the way, I don't think that's related to the error message either.

Angel, do you use a scanner? Does this problem with the Pictures folder happen EVERY time? This particular image view file makes calls to scanning devices, some of which need to be run -- like Stimon.exe does -- when your system boots. If you have a scanner, have you made any changes to it? Does it work properly when you turn it on? This error message you are getting is almost always related to a scripting error when output calls conflict with input-synchronous calls -- used by certain voice programs also.
