get a start up floppy disk
then use it to go into dos
then at the C:\ prompt type scanreg/restore
choose an earlier file and hit enter
take out the floppy and restart, it may solve your problem

Hi,
What is the full, complete error message...........
"Error Loading Explorer.exe , must re-install windows.
Explorer.exe ??????????????"
I would run with Chanters link first.
Try the security forum for tools to detect startup programs.
Also I thought Me by default loaded wincd into "C:\Windows\Options" folder.
Normally would be able to reinstall over the top from there.
Hope it helps some.

Are you able to boot into Safe Mode? If not, try changing the shell to Progman.exe and then run the System Restore tool. Instructions on how to do this here (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=279736).

Hi again ComputerNerd87 - what didnt work? Were you able to change the shell to progman.exe using your WinME bootdisk? If so, we still might be able to help.

The only other suggestion I have is to download Ultimate Boot Disk for WinME from our Downloads page here (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/html/downloads/download.php/id/7). Once you have downloaded the file, put a floppy disk in your drive and doubleclick on the file to create the bootdisk. It can repair your registry, scan your drive for errors and much more. Go to the developers home page and read all the info first. Also download F-Prot for DOS and install it onto floppies and run it either separately or in conjunction with Ultimate Boot Disk. You can download it here (http://www.f-prot.com/products/home_use/dos/) and instructions on how create the floppies are here (http://www.f-prot.com/support/fpdos_faq/)
