Need some more information.

What kind of PC is it?
How long has this been going on?
Did your friend install or uninstall anything prior to this happening?
Does this happen at different intervals or while using a certain program?

One possibility is the PC could be overheating. Take the case apart and look at the Fans. Make sure they are running good, and free of Dust. You can get a can of Compressed air at Wal-Mart or any store like it for about $5.00.... You need to make sure to take a look at the Powersupply, that is the big grey box that your Power cord plugs into, make sure the fan is free of dust.

Post back with the information from above and results of what you find inside the case...

Intel P4 1.3G on a Intel board. Only three months old. Don't know how long it has been doing this.

Hi, a P4 would have to be in a real good case with a real good P4 rated power supply...

now, it powers off, and it doesn't have trouble booting back up, is that correct?

because I would then start looking at the ower feed.
why do I think that could be the cause?
well, we have so called power shemes.
people have two meters.
one for daytime, when demand is high, one for low demand time
what happens is this.
these meters kick in
boilers, washing machines, heaters, etc are then getting "on line" during low demand time (powerCO sells tricity at a cheaper rate then, see)
so, when these things kick in, one gets a voltage fluctuation...

That may be enough to cause a shut-down..

your friend may have a large machine nearby w/i powering up at certain times of the day.
That too could cause this...

what would be the workaround?
a UPS or uniteruptable power supply
starts at around US$ 150 or so?

of course, don't forget to look at task sheduler.
someone may have put a prank on that machine

something like a sheduled enditall/windows shutdown...

JTDOOM,
I believe the computer is hooked up to a UPS. I'll have to check the task scheduler. Get back to you if I find anything or not!

Thanks
