There are a few who host the forum for you such as
http://www.ezboard.com http://www.proboards.com/index.html also do a search for free message boards. If you want to host it yourself then checkout http://www.invisionboard.com http://www.ikonboard.com http://www.phpbb.com You will need webspace and it'll most probably have to be paid webspace as free webspace doesn't usually support databases or scripting that you will need.

you get a full invision board they are new so idon't know how reliable they are and they will only host a small number of boards on the plus side you get a full version board and few ads

most bbs hosting will have ads and such. I use ikonboard from ikonboard.com This board practically sets itself up. All you have to do is to move the files to your host, change the security settings, then it will install itself. For a listing of different boards and reviews check out
