hi

I have a hp pavilion with win me it has a conexant-riptide
sound card / modem combination it seems to only work when it wants to I can hear it dialing then hear it starting to communicate with the server then a bunch of static when the server should be answering whats my problem bad driver, wrong port, system board or what??
the server is to a isp that is'nt having any problems
also I manage to connect 2 times only to disconnected with in minutes any ideas?

your question is confusing...you need to be clearer with what you are asking.

You have a hp pavilion with WinME
You have a combination modem/soundcard - is this a replacement? Had it ever worked?
server is to a isp????? Are you saying the isp's server is ok? Did you contact your isps tech support?

What was the circumstances leading up to the modem problem? Did you install new modem, other hardware, new isp, new/upgrade software?

Did you check the phone line between your computer and the wall? Make sure it is plugged in securly or try a different wire.

If you live in the US and have inline insurance on your phone bill, get the phone company to check the wiring inside the house. Just tell them you are getting static on the phone. Do not say anything about the computer. They will check inside the house free if you have inline insurance.

the sound card came with the computer

yes the modem worked yesterday I was having problem with cd reader/writer went to the net to down load a driver
and would'nt connect

the circumstance leading up to the problem picked up the computer and drove about 10 miles

yes contacted the tech support

I have another computer and the phone line worked with no problem
