View Full Version : clean off Win2k and install NT

You might think I'm mad, but ....

Our networked (Novell 4) client PCs use Win NT. I got a new PC from Dell but would only come with XP or Win 2k. I chose Win 2k to comply with as much as poss the existing environment.

I've had tonnes of problems in loading this 2K machine - basically down to all our software being for NT, requiring a patch, corrupting network files, compatibility etc. etc. (these would be many thread's worth!)

My question: I need to get another new PC on the network. The Dell Optiplexes (pre-loaded with win 2k) are our choice. Can I 'fdisk' Win 2000 off the HDD and install NT for an easy installation life??? Where do I start? Should I think about hardware conflicts - i.e. could a motherboard only work with Win2k and not NT? (I know I'd lose USB). Basically, let's get rid of 2K and bring in, regretably, NT! Or is there another way - is dual-boot a dodgy path???

Many thanks!
