odd CD workings???

Hi

I have a problem with my dad's comp. He is running Windows ME. Everytime you open the CD ROM is just closes after a vouple of seconds. It is really annoying cos you have to try and get the CD into the tray before it starts closing. I have noticed that the CD-ROM is trying to read the CD when it is open which I presume is why the CD-ROM is closing. The CD_ROM is ATAPI 52X CD-ROM. This never use to happen. I dont often use this comp so I am unsure as to when it started
Thanks for any help
Richard

Could be a virus. Download the latest difinitions and do a full scan.

Could also be because of a program. What programs are loaded/running. Any CD Writing programs?

THanks for the reply. There is no burner on the system so it shouldnt be anything to do with that. I have got the latest patch from AVG and it says my system is clean

Check what programs are running. It could be a CD/Media Player that is conflicting.

yea i have somtin to say to that

yea, it could be that when you tried to copy a song onto your media player you may have accidentally opened the drive. maybe it is still looking for that cd and trying to copy that song. or maybe the system got restarted while something important was running, like a driver cd or something. by the way i am really desperate please reply for my thread in the me forum about the system not found on any driver. im looking for a mod or some people w/ increased computer running minds. thank you.
