Play DVD from HDD>>??

Recently,i copied three of my family cd's to a dvd. While playing VCD's in pc.the different tracks that play simultaneously in a VCD PLAYER are represented as AVSEQ01.DAT,AVSEQ02.DAT,...ETC under the MPEGAV folder.Hence,we can easily copy these .DAT files to the hard disk and play it from the hdd.

Whereas,in case a DVD,the options such as SUBTITLES,CUT-SCENES are available, which can be activated by pressing the appropriate buttons in a DVD PLAYER.The same can be done while playing the DVD in a PC from the "DVD DRIVE" using software such as POWER DVD,etc.

Once we copy the files from a DVD to a HDD,the folder such as "AUDIO_TS" AND "VIDEO_TS" exists. The executable files inside the VIDEO_TS folder are there with .VOB extension.

My question is,
1.Will just copying these .VOB files to the hdd make it possible for me to play the video from the hdd?
2.These files(each .VOB file) are more then 700 MB.In case,i want to backup these dvd video's in a CD-R,CD-RW,is there any software to split these dvd video files into two or more files so that they can be individually copied to 2 cd's??
