Windows Messenger 4.7 Troubles

Im having some trouble with Windows Messenger 4.7. As of today, I can
nolonger sign in any of my messenger accounts. I am repeatedly asked to
install windows messenger 5.0; however I dont want this application.

Is there a way to remedy this. Must I reinstall messenger 4.7, will the
reinstall over-write the existing messenger or will I have two 4.7
applications, this is unexceptable.

When windows messenger wants you to upgrade to a newer version your left with no choice but to do it or stop using the service.

I dont think this was the case Rainbow32. When I followed the link given by Microsoft I am offered the choice of windows messenger 5.0 or windows messenger 4.7, which is the messenger I am currently using. I have noticed on other forums simular problems for users of windows messenger, msn messenger and also with the .NET service.

I just opened up messenger, I hardly ever use it, and tried to sign in and a window popped up telling me if I want to continue I must install the newer version.

Just did a Google search, although many links say Windows Messenger 4.7, if you try to download, they take you to Windows Messenger 6.0, but this link...

http://www.msfn.org/unattended/deuts...smessenger.htm

I dowloaded, checke the properties of the download, and it says it's 4.7!

Give it a try, it "should" overwrite any previous files for you, in the appropriate folder!

The problem lufbra,if you use messenger which I don't, is that when you try to sign on to Messenger with an older version you get a pop-up window telling you if you want to continue you must upgrade to the newer version. I checked out the MS page about this upgrade and it's for security reasons, so I don't see why any reasonably person would object to that

I don't blame anyone for not wanting to upgrade a MS product. Some of the stuff they have come out with in the past in the form of patches and fixes and what-not has messed up many a otherwise perfectly working computer. I still don't have SP1 installed for that reason. It slowed my computer way down, and I know there's a patch for that but I'll wait for SP2 to come out and then wait another 6 months afterwards to see if anyone is having a problem with it.

If you use IM, then I suggest that you "upgrade" to MSN 6 and disable Windows Messenger. Windows Messenger is so full of security holes, which have included the infamous messenger spam,

It isn't fully compatible with other versions of Messenger, Windows or MSN either

Trillian is good and It saves computer resources. Since I have accounts with yahoo, msn, aim, and icq, I do not have to run all four im clients in the background - Just one is needed. I am currently using Trillian Pro 2.0

I don't know, I only have one account with each service so I never had that problem. Check the following for features, fixes, and whatever in the new version. If I have time, I will check later for the specific problem.
