best way to backup data?

My computer is constantly being messed up because there's lots of non 'computer people' using the computer.. Therefore, formatting the C drive is a constant thing. Once every 2 or 3 months.

Now during that time its running, i save lots and lots of stuff.. I have 6 zip disks and a couple of CDs filled to capacity.. Tons of images, programs, music, ect...

I was just wondering what is the best way to back up things? I dont like using Zip disks because they're expensive, and arent very reliable. i have 3 corrupt zip disks with tons of data i can no longer get to. I dont like using cds because they can get scratched very easilly, and floppys are a joke.

I was thinking of buying one of those removable flash drives.. but i'm not too sure..

Any suggestions??
Thanks.

Firstly I would suggest a second harddrive to store data on.

You install the OS (or several) on the first HDD and store your data on the second. You can also have seperate partitions on the drive (MP3, Photos, Vids etc.)

After that I would suggest a DVD Writer. Most common will use a 4.7GB disk. That holds alot of data
