can you believe this...

The student who showed that pressing the shift key is now in trouble because of the dcma. http://news.com.com/2100-1025_3-5089...l?tag=nefd_top Does this mean pressing cancel to bypass a Win9x login screen is also a violation of the dcma?

Personally I am totally against piracy of software and music but if the antipiracy protection can be deactivate just by using the shift key then the company that created it did not do their job.

Here's their press release.

Someone at Sunncomm's been smoking something serious, or real embarrassed. My guess is both..........................

"If pressing the Shift key is a violation of the DMCA, then the law needs to be changed."

too true. It's their fault for not fully testing their product.

It looks like the lawsuit may not happen after all. I wonder why? Did they realized all they could do is weaken the dcma with a possible lost for poor code writing. http://news.com.com/2100-1027_3-5089...l?tag=nefd_top

An interesting angle on this from The Register who point out that EULA that the student is alleged to have broken refers to the disk as a "CD" - it isn't because of the copy protection mechanism which means it isn't standards compliant so isn't allowed to be called a CD or bear the CD logo.
