Hello,
AFAIK there is no way of setting a time limit rule on how long you wish to have notifications sent to you. But you can turn them off by default. Go into your UserCP > Options > Look for "Automatic Thread Subscription Mode" Change the dropdown to say "Do not subscribe to threads". If you wish to then subscribe to a thread in a particular instance you do have the option of doing so when posting.
