Display Problem
A friend of mine bought a used computer and asked me to do a clean install of Win98SE. I tested the original OS and all components worked fine. After formatting the C Drive I proceeded to load Win98SE. The installation went great with one major problem. The resolution of the desktop looked poor so I checked the display settings. The only option given was 2 color or 16 colors. I need at least 256 color. In My Computer the display adapter and monitor look fine. How can I increase the number of resolution options? This one has me stumped!

Hi
It looks like the correct driver for you Display adaptor is not installed because Win98SE does not have it - so it uses standard VGA adaptor which has only 16 colors max. You have to first find the brand and model of the Display adaptor and then the driver for it. If you post the brand and model, someone here will perhaps be able to help . Rgds Nirosh

Sorry for the delay in responding. Fixed the problem this evening. The problem was with the video driver. I was told by a fairly reliable source the sound card is part of the Hewlett Packard motherboard. I never heard of this before. Suggested I go to the HP website and find the download for their video driver for Win98SE. Once I found the download section there were three downloads for this particular driver. An hour later the video display was perfect. Thanks. We can close this thread.
