Hibernation Error

Hello,

My friend is having a problem with his IBM thinkpad (Model:T20).
Ever since about a week ago his computer won't go into hibernation mode. (Which he uses alot) When he tries to load into hibernation mode, A message keeps poping up giving him an error like: "The driver for the 'standard 101/102 key or microsoft natural PS/2 keyboard' is preventing the system from going into hibernation mode...try updating the driver or closing all programs"

I believe it has always used that keyboard driver and closing all of the programs running in the background doesn't help. I tried looking on IBMs website for drivers for the T20 but none are listed for keyboards or the hibernation software(For Win2k)...I think it just uses the drivers and software that comes with windows.

The laptop is running Windows 2000 with all of the IBM software utilities. (which doesn't seem to help) There's also a second partition with Win98 and the hibernation mode seems to work fine on it, so I'm thinking there might be a problem with hibernation software in Win2k? However, I'm not sure how to reinstall the software because I think it's part of windows2000?? For Win98 I had to download it off IBMs website. (I couldn't find a 2000 version though)

If anyone has any knowledge of this sort of error or something similar, then I would appreciate any suggestions offered.

DH

Hi Dark Hermit - tell your friend to uninstall Adobe Type Manager. If he requires this program, he can check for an updated version here.

What if he doesn't have this program? The only resent program that he has installed is some engineering program that he got with one of his text books.

We did try uninstalling it but that didn't seem to help. = \

Adobe Type Manager is the usual culprit but there is another possibility here.

Would any of those 'culprit' drivers be listed under: device manager-keyboard properties-driver details?

I would doubt it Dark Hermit but I dont know enough about the architecture of kernel mode drivers to be 100% sure. Did you have a look?

According to the link I posted and this microsoft link, it is installed by a third party program that is not compatible with Win2K. Why not try disabling all third party programs from starting when the computer boots using msconfig. If you start by disabling them all, rebooting and re-enabling each program, one by one and rebooting after each, you will find out which program is causing the problem. Killing the process wouldnt be enough as the driver would already be loaded. Sure, it's tedious but it works. You can download msconfig for Win2K and the help file from here.
