I recently experienced a system crash, which totally disabled comp. 2 different scenerios were offered, an event-specific virus, or a corrupted FAT.
As it turned out, the CD-ROM also went bad. I replaced the CD-ROM, and was able to install Win98SE from a friend's software.
Once the comp was back to a working state, the next step was a full system recovery. When I put the cd in, it is supposed to bring up a window asking if I want to do a restore or a full recovery. I see a very brief hourglass, the cd-rom is reading the disk, but no window appears. When I go to my computer, and right-click on d, there is no autoplay listing, and when I click on open it gives me a list of the contents on the disc.
I have tried discs of other programs and they pop right up, I am frustrated!
The cd-rom info suggests the possibility of a problem reading an origional disc, so I copied it and get the same results.
Any help would be appreciated - it seems that without the origional window, there is no way to get the software running.
