DOS file Sharing from one PC to another DOS PC
I would like to setup a DOS system with a HD as a shared drive. I have a peer-to-peer network and want to transfer from the command line files from the "server" to the "client".
What is the easiest way to do this? Later, I would like to add the client software that connects to the server onto a bootdisk, so I can easily copy over the files automatically. Any Ideas? Thanks! |

NIC to NIC.
But, cause I want to set this up on several computers, I would like to use a server/client that will work on a wide range of NICs. protocol for DOS, would most likely be NetBui, but if TCP/IP can work then that would be great too...but the only thing that I think would be a problem is that the "server" would need to be DHCP to give the client an IP. software.....free....shareware..... DOS ver.....its a bootdisk image...Windows 98 ver 4.10.2222 Last edited by webpromo; October 13th, 2003 at 01:43 AM. |

I has assumed that you had a couple of computers with a DOS installation and some networking software that you wanted some information on installing or tweaking, but I don't see nearly enough for you to be able to proceed. Your DOS boot disk doesn't contain enough of the DOS OS to do what you want done, I'd recommend a complete DOS installation first of all (something like MS-DOS 6.X), and for this you'd need to re-configure your HD as FAT 16. Then you'll need something like Lan Manager for MS-DOS and maybe Network Client for DOS as well.
You'll also need to make sure that you can get the DOS drivers for the Network Adapters and anything else that you will want to install to work with DOS. You could also install some early version of NetWare, like 3.X or 4.X to act as a server and then install the Client for Netware on the DOS machines. Before tackling this type of job, you need to ask yourself why? Unless you understand DOS and have both the applications to run under it and the need, this won't prove much other than the fact that you will learn the rudiments of getting a network running without much (any?) automation or "Wizardry"> |
