Another one of these problems

Hi, I used to have google as my default page, but now I can get any other except google itself (this includes searches via yahoo - which i belive uses ggoogle too?)


I have been using hijack this before but feel i may have deleted something i shouldnt have? Anyway its below......P.s Im running windoes 2000

I also use spy-bot, adaware and reg-clean and thinking abouth it the probelms have been since I started using regclean but this may be a red herring??

Welcome to CTH Alun. If that is your entire log, I think you may have deleted items you shouldnt have too. Run Hijack This again and restore ALL your backups. To do this, when you run Hijack This, click on Config > Backups and select each item and restore it. Reboot afterwards.

Now run another scan with Hijack This. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

Alas ....Ive been a dumb-a** and deleted the back-up files! Is there any way out of this one?

Try repairing Internet Explorer. Go to Start > Settings and open Control Panel. Doubleclick on Add/Remove Programs and look in the list of installed programs for Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. When you find it, select it with your mouse and then click on Add/Remove. A dialogue box will open offering you three choices. Choose Repair Internet Explorer and follow the prompts.

If that doesnt do the trick Alun, try reinstalling IE.

Hi again, this is weird!


IE is not showing up in the add/remove panel


Ive reinstalled the latest version of IE



now the address bar says www.google.co.uk but the main page still shows the cpanel.net page with the message "there is no website configured at this address"


Ive tried deleting temp internet files/history etc


any ideas please?

Have you installed any cPanel software? I just noticed that you are using an old version of Hijack This. Could you please download this (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/beta/hijackthis.zip) version and run another scan. Post the log back here.

Ive no idea what it is? shouldnt spybot or adaware show it as spyware if it is?

There is new spyware being written daily Alun which neither program will catch until files are submitted to them.

Just for now, disable it from your startups via msconfig. You can download msconfig for Win2K and the help file from here (http://www2.whidbey.com/djdenham/Msconfig.htm). Could you please also find that file, copy it, zip it up and send it to me. My addy is annmarie@cybertechhelp.com. I will check it out for you.

CPanel is a web server management system, it sounds like your browser has been hijacked (or is using a very confused DNS server) and it thinks google is at a different address to where it is, and at that site is a CPanel error message
