Unhappy Recording sound?

Using windows 98 with sonic foundry acidpro4, celeron processor,5 gb hard drive,....old pc really. No upgraded sound card. Inputing keyboard through the mic input. Mic levels have to be kept real low when recording, to avoid clipping, but when track is played back it is very loud! Is there any devices I can download or any tips you can give on how to have a balanced input and output.

there should be a recording volume level on your volume settings under multimedia or sound devices, try normalizing them to about the same level.
