Back in the old days (before the kids started playing on the PC) CDs would auto start once they were inserted in the computer.. now, they don't...
I've checked the Auto start feature in the Control Panel, and it's set to auto start, but they won't. Any tips?
Thanks,
Tim

Not all cds have autorun on them.

But the ones that are not starting, used to start automatically... that's why this is such a pain!

Hi...don't know if this will work for you as I have ME..but you can have a look..
right click my computer...properties/device manager/right click your cd drive/properties/ (if you have 2 drives do it on each) settings tab/put a check in auto insert notification. You may have to reboot before it takes effect.

That's the thing, it is checked... it just seemed to stop auto running one day... not sure if the kids did something or not.....

Hi Yadmit:
By any chance do you have TWEAKUI installed? Have you used MSCONFIG? Both of these have CD-AUTORUN settings that can override the "regular" settings.

They don't really sound too familiar... how do I check to see if they are in there?

Hi yadmit:
Neither TWEAKUI or MSCONFIG come with WIN95, but they can both be added.
After checking further, I can't find anything in MSCONFIG that controls the CD AUTORUN (that's what I get for dispensing advice off the top of my head), so let's move on to TWEAKUI:
TO CHECK FOR TWEAKUI:
click on START -> SETTINGS -> CONTROL PANEL.
See if there is an icon for TWEAKUI.
If so, double-click on it.
A new window will open.
Click on the PARANOIA tab.
In the box called THINGS THAT HAPPEN BEHIND YOUR BACK,
there are check boxes for PLAY AUDIO CDS AUTOMATICALLY and PLAY DATA CDS AUTOMATICALLY.
Place (or remove) check marks as desired.
Note that there is a note which says "(Requires Auto-Insert Notification enabled.)"
Click on OK, and close the CONTROL PANEL window.
SETTING THE "AUTO-INSERT NOTIFICATION":
Right-click on MY COMPUTER.
Click on PROPERTIES -> DEVICE MANAGER
Click on the "+" next to CDROM
Click on the device that shows under CDROM
Click on PROPERTIES -> SETTINGS
Under OPTIONS, you will find a check box for AUTO INSERT NOTIFICATION.
Put a check in the box if you want to use the settings you selected in TWEAKUI.
Click on OK -> OK.
Good luck.

What are some of the benefits of TweakUI?

TweakUI is a handy little program that lets you change, or tweak, some windows settings that are not available in the default windows installation.
There are things about Paranoia, Privacy, what items show on the start menu etc.
